PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hoisting machine for an elevator capable of preventing occurrence of slip between a sheave and a belt. SOLUTION: In this hoisting machine for the elevator constituted by winding the belt 5 around a sheave channel 3 of the sheave 2 provided in the hoisting machine 1 removably and winding a main rope 7 on the belt 5 to elevate and lower a car, a recessed part 4 or a projecting part is formed in the sheave channel 3 and a projecting part 6 or a recessed part engaging with the recessed part 4 or the projecting part is provided on the belt 5.
