The machine has a portal with a traverse unit arranged within a housing. A sheet metal covering (5) encloses all important units e.g. guides and energy unit, of the machine. A large opening (7) is provided for directing cutting energy via a pipeline from inside of the covering till a sledge. The sledge has an exit for discharging the cutting energy to the workpiece. The opening is protected by a circular protective band.
