<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mark forming method capable of correctly grasping the movement of a moving body such as a conveying belt of an image forming apparatus, preventing possibility of causing cracks or damages, and reducing fredluctuations in the moving speed of the moving body without causing a leak current even in the case of exposure with a high electric field. <P>SOLUTION: The method for forming the mark 33 on the moving body 31 involves: forming a second material layer 32 on the moving body 31, the second material layer 32 containing a first material that absorbs light ray 30 of a first wavelength and scattering at least light ray of a second wavelength; emitting light rays 30a and 30b of the first wavelength to the second material layer 32; allowing the first material to absorb the light rays, thereby changing the scatter characteristic of the second material layer 32.
