<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coat material that contains no fine particle for providing anti-glare property or reduces an amount of the fine particle even if contains the fine particle and forms an anti-glare hard coat layer having high-definition anti-glare property and stable optical characteristics and excellent scuff resistance and an anti-glare hard coat film. <P>SOLUTION: The material for forming an anti-glare hard coat layer comprises (A) an active energy ray-curable polymerizable compound, (B) a thermoplastic resin, (C) a good solvent for the component (A) and the component (B) and (D) a poor solvent for the component (B) in the content ratio of the component (A) to the component (B) of 100:0.3-100:50 on the basis of weight and in the content ratio of the component (C) to the component (D) of 99:1-30:70 on the basis of weight.
