PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detector reactive to vertical magnetism with minimized mechanism parts. SOLUTION: In this detector, a magnetic needle unit 3 is subjected to water repellent treatment, and the inner wall of a chamber 4 is subjected to hydrophilic treatment. According to this, the magnetic needle unit itself is moved within the chamber in magnetic field directions N and S by a vertical magnetic field component, whereby the intensity of vertical magnetic field is detected.
