The present invention is based on empirical results showing that when combining short (small) interfering RNA (siRNA) duplexes with lipid-based transfection reagents and incubating the same with skin cells, such as keratinocytes and melanoma cells, a significant inhibition of proliferation of the cells was exhibited. Thus, the present invention provides the use of siRNA duplexes that includes complementary sense and anti-sense sequences to at least part of a target mRNA sequence, or alternative splice form, mutant or cognate thereof, for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition for treating a dermatological disease or disorder. Therapeutic methods and pharmaceutical compositions for treating dermatological diseases and disorders are also subject of the present invention.
