<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector designed to cool a light valve without using a dedicated cooling fan for the light valve. <P>SOLUTION: The projector includes: a light valve unit 30 having the light valve 31 for modulating light from a light source into an image based on image data; a projection lens unit 50 having a projection lens 51 for enlarging and projecting the image modulated by the light valve 31, and a lens holder 52 for holding the projection lens 51; and a light valve cap 40 for fixing the light valve unit 30 and the projection lens unit 50 such that they are kept in a predetermined positional relation.
