PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated paper having high quality required in coated paper even by using a high-speed papermaking method at a paper velocity of≥1,300 m/min. SOLUTION: The method for producing a coated paper at a paper velocity of≥1,300 m/min comprises the following steps continuously and successively performed in a machine; (1) a step to produce paper with a gap-type twin wire former, (2) a step to form wet paper by a dehydration means with a suction roll and/or a blade, (3) a 1st coating step to perform the application of a lower layer aqueous coating liquid composed mainly of an adhesive and a pigment by blade coating and the drying of the coated liquid successively on one surface and the other surface of a coating paper, (4) a 2nd coating step to perform the application of an upper layer aqueous coating liquid composed mainly of an adhesive and a pigment by blade coating and the drying of the coated liquid successively on one surface and the other surface of the paper subjected to the 1st coating step, and (5) a step to flatten the produced coated paper with a hot soft calender having a multiple stages of combinations of a metal roll and an elastic roll with at least two nips.
