<p>Crosslinking polyolefins by (1) incorporating a thermally activatable free-radical forming compound (I) which dissociated below the crystalline m.p. of a polyolefin, into the polyolefin by dipping the polyolefin into a solution of (I) in a suitable solvent which also swells and partially solvates the polyolefin, and (2) crosslinking the composition so-obtained by heat-treatment. The process is characterised in that steps (1) and (2) are repeated at least once, and the incorporation of (I) and the heat-treatment of the composition are effected at a temp. below the crystalline m.p. of the polyolefin, and the incorporation of (I) is carried out at a temp. at which there is nor or almost no thermal decomposition of (I). The solution of (I) may also contain a polymerisable polyene (II). The (II) may itself be a solvent for the (I).</p> |
