The assistance determines possible routes from a place of departure to a destination on the basis of route net data, in particular on the basis of road network data. The assistance provides preferred route, and outputs drive references, which guide the user along the provided route. The navigation assistance is designed to make a validity check whether the locomotion unit will follow the provided route or not. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a method for navigation of a locomotion unit (B) a computer program product for implementing the method for navigation of the locomotion unit (C) an application of the navigation assistance.
