The drive has an active roller (2) and a passive roller (3) over which a film is moved. The active roller includes a piezo-ceramic cylinder (9) and a steel surface coating (10), where the bottom surfaces of the active roller are uncoated. The diameter of the active roller changes based on a control voltage induced in the cylinder due to a force imparted on the cylinder for determining shrinkage of the film. An independent claim is also included for a method for transporting a film by a film drive.
