PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus for preventing the occurrence of image deterioration due to dispersion in the carrying, of a striped image due to application of a correction fluid not properly dried, and of dropping of a foreign material such as a needle of a stapler or a clip into the image reading apparatus. SOLUTION: A shutter is provided between a draft feeder the sheet guide of which has a sit and an image read unit, part of the shutter is formed with a transparent member, and the shutter is configured to be moved in interlocking with the movement of the image read unit, and the image reading apparatus is characterized in that when the image read unit moves to a skim-through unit, the transparent part of the shutter moves to the skim-through unit, and when the image read unit moves to an escape unit, the components other than the transparent part of the shutter move to the skim-through unit.
