The present invention is directed to a method of producing a delivery vehicle by the miniemulsion method, said delivery vehicle at least comprising nanoparticles made by the miniemulsion method, a surface modifying agent and a pharmaceutical agent. The present invention is further directed to a delivery vehicle manufactured by this method and its use for the transfection of eucaryotic cells or for the treatment of diseases and conditions, requiring a pharmaceutical agent to cross one or more physiological barriers, in particular the blood-brain barrier.
