In a vertically or horizontally sliding window or door having frames and sashes of metal &c heat conducting material and having parallel tracks for two sliding panels (e.g. sashes) having overlapping frame parts in the closed position, the said tracks or ways are formed with an elongated centre portion 20 common to both ways 30, 66 and a spaced side portion 28, 64 on either side of the centre portion 20 with sashes &c slidable in the respective ways and the centre portion 20 being divided transversely by a slot 81, 82, 83 at the overlap of the sashes in their closed positions so that the lower part L exposed to the weather is heat insulated (e.g. by air or putty) from the upper part U exposed to internal atmospheric conditions. The centre portion 20 is insulated as clearly shown in Fig. 9 from the side portions of the frame by insulation strips 36, 38, 72, 74 and in a similar construction the sashes are formed in two parallel parts, inner and outer parts, heat insulated from each other so that the outer side of the window as a whole is heat insulated from the inside and condensation on the inside of the window frame and sashes is practically eliminated or greatly reduced. |
