Producing alkoxylate, comprising contacting an ethylene oxide (EO)-containing alkylene oxide mixture with a starter compound in the presence of a binary metal cyanide compound (I) by using a total inert gas and EO pressure of 1.5-6.0 bar in the induction phase, is new. Alkoxylate production by contacting an ethylene oxide (EO)-containing alkylene oxide mixture with a starter compound in the presence of a binary metal cyanide compound of formula (I) comprises using a total inert gas and EO pressure of 1.5-6.0 bar in the induction phase.
