A package for keeping fish cool comprises at least one thermoplastic rectangular inner tray e.g. of polystyrene or a polyolefin or a copolymer thereof or polyethylene having a peripheral flange to which is heat sealed a tearable plastics membrane, the tray or trays being surrounded by ice and enclosed within an outer box e.g. of expanded polystyrene, or fluted Kraftboard lined on one or both sides with polyethylene. A cardboard box may enclose the outer box. The inner trays may be enclosed within a polyethylene bag containing ice and located within the outer box. Two inner trays may be located in face to face contact, Fig. 4, and connected either by heat sealing the respective membranes around or outside the flange area. Alternatively the trays may be connected by banding with weftless tape. The flanges may have contact assisting projections to prevent too tight a fit when nesting empty trays. The fish may be prechilled in cold brine. |
