1,094,366. Plate-type heat exchangers. ALFA LAVAL AKTIEBOLAG. Dec. 29, 1965 [Dec. 29, 1964], No. 55050/65. Heading F4S. A plate heat exchanger comprises a plurality of similar plates, each furnished with spacing projections 7, 12, so disposed that by displacing one plate relative to another, the spacing projections of one plate may engage surfaces of the other in a different plane, thereby providing a means of adjusting the thickness of the interspace between the two plates. As described, the projections 7, 12 are formed by depressions in the opposite surface of the plate (Fig. 8), such that either face of the projection (7) may act as a supporting surface. In one embodiment (Figs. 12, 13) two such projections (7a, 7b) of equal height are located at diagonally opposite corners of a rectangle (d) on opposite faces (a, b) of the plate, the other two corners being supporting surfaces in the plane of the plate. In a further embodiment, as shown (see also Fig. 19), wider, lower projections 12a, 12b are provided on opposite faces (a, b) of the plate, in these other corners. In these cases, rotation of one plate relative to its neighbour through 180 degrees about either axis parallel to the sides of the defined rectangle or about the axis perpendicular to the plane of the plate through the centre (c) thereof will effect a change in the thickness of the gap between it and its neighbour when contact is made between the two; e.g. in Fig. 24, the plate z is rotated by 180 degrees about the axis (Z, Fig. 20), perpendicular to the plane of the plate, relative to the plates o. In yet another embodiment (Fig. 29) three projections (7b, 12b, 14b) of different heights (L, 2L, 3L, Fig. 30) are disposed around the corners of a square, on one side (b) of the plate. In this case, only rotation by 90 degrees or a multiple thereof about the axis (z) perpendicular to the plate is necessary to effect a change in the thickness of the gap between the plate and its neighbour (Figs. 31, 32, 33).
|
