INDUCTION OF ANTIVIRAL NEUTRALIZING ANTIBODIES IN HUMANS AND ANIMALS

The invention relates to immunogenic constructs that in principle comprise two different domains of the transmembrane envelope protein of enveloped viruses including retroviruses including HIV, a pharmaceutical agent for inducing humoral neutralizing immune responses to viral infections and to a kit for the detection of antibodies and viral antigens. The invention also relates to a method for inducing an antibody response and to a method for the passive immunization of an organism using neutralizing antibodies that were obtained using the above-mentioned immunogenic constructs. Finally, the invention relates to a bioassay for detecting viral infection and for detecting the production of neutralizing antibodies.
