[Also in Division B7] In a sewage treatment plant such as a settling tank or trickling bed filter, along which a surface skimmer or sprinkler arm is moved by a carriage, the carriage is moved by an endless cable secured to a periodically reversible drum and has supporting wheels 17, running on the tops of side walls or longitudinal dividing walls, and guide wheels 19, bearing against the sides of the walls, all wheels having resilient tyres of high density polyurethane. In Fig. 4, the carriage has a bridge 31 extending across the trickling bed, and wheels 19 are mounted on a sub-frame 32 pivoted at 36 and urged against wall 33 by springs 34. In Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), sub-frame 32 carries wheels 17 as well as wheels 19. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates how a carriage may run on a central trough (11) from which sewage liquid is siphoned to spray arms (44) which deliver it to beds (10). Figs. 2, 3 (not shown) illustrate, a sub-frame carrying a single guide wheel 19 and pivoted about a vertical axis. Figs. 10, 11 (not shown) illustrate different wheel arrangements on a settling tank with a surface skimmer (50). Fig. 12 (not shown) illustrates how carriages 15 may be moved by two endless cables attached to a single winding drum. |
