Apparatus for monitoring an ECG comprises a first body wearable part 1 which receives ECG signals from ECG measurement electrodes 3a, 3b, and a second base station part 4. The first part 1 includes a wireless transceiver, a memory storing signal templates, and a processor. The processor segments the received ECG signal, and compares the segments with the templates stored in the memory. The resulting ECG data is transmitted to the base station 4 which comprises a wireless transceiver and a processor to generate and/or modify the signal templates and transmit the generated and/or modified templates back to the first part. Thus, detection and classification of new beat shapes (i.e. beats that do not match any of the wearable part's stored templates) occurs in the base station 4, and any new templates generated by the base station 4 are transmitted back to the wearable device 1. This reduces the power consumption in the wearable device 1. The base station may also transfer recorded ECG data to a central database 5. The apparatus may be used to monitor other biopotentials (e.g. EEG) or non-physiological conditions. A corresponding method is also disclosed.
|
