Remote disabling or locking of a mobile communication apparatus (10, 18), such as a GSM mobile telephone with a subscriber identity module, SIM (8), by forming a locking message (28) instructing the mobile communication apparatus (10, 18) to disable; transmitting the locking message (28) to the mobile communication apparatus (10, 18); and the mobile communication apparatus (10, 18) implementing a disabling or locking process in response to receiving the locking message (28). Thus the subscriber of the mobile telephone (10, 18) does not have to rely on the network operator to prevent use of a lost or stolen SIM (8). The message may be an encrypted SMS with a PIN specific to the mobile. A message may be displayed on the mislaid phone relating to the user locking the cellular device. |
