The treatment of sludge comprises pouring the sludge (1), containing water, organic and inorganic metallic compounds, from a tank (2) into a closed and thermally insulated tubular plant (3). As the sludge is transported through the plant by augers the air inside it is heated to 200-400[deg]C, the resulting vapors are cooled to 100-200[deg]C, and organic compounds are condensed and separated from other vapors. The inorganic metallic compounds (15) are extracted in dry form at the outlet end of the tubular plant. The plant comprises continuous tubes at different levels, heated by a combusible gas and with a water curtain to condense vapors. An independent claim is included for a unit for the treatment of sludge as above. |
