<p>An apparatus for purifying an exhaust gas including particulate matters and flowing in an exhaust system includes a first catalyst, a second catalyst, a heater, an injector, a differential pressure sensor, and a controller. The second catalyst is an NOx sorbing-and-reducing catalyst, and is disposed on a downstream side of the first catalyst. The heater is for heating the first catalyst. The injector injects a liquid reducing agent into the exhaust gas, and is disposed on an upstream side of the first catalyst. The differential pressure sensor is for sensing a difference in pressure between inlet and outlet sides of the fist catalyst, and/or a difference in pressure between inlet and outlet sides of the second catalyst.
