BASED ON THESE FOCUSSING ERROR SIGNALS (FE), A SYSTEM CONTROLLER DISCRIMINATES THE TYPES OF THE OPTICAL DISC HAVING DIFFERENT NUMBERS OF SIGNAL RECORDING LAYERS FOR SETTING AN OPERATING MODE IN KEEPING WITH THE TYPES OF THE OPTICAL DISC.
