[Also in Divisions B8 and E2] A resilient one-piece device suitable for use as a fastener, plug button or closure formed by moulding from a synthetic plastics material comprises a head 12 and a shank 11, the shank being hollow and having an external crosssection which diminishes from a position of maximum cross-sectional area intermediate its length towards the head and towards the free end of the shank and the shank being oval or generally oval in cross-section at the position of maximum external cross-sectional area. In the construction shown in Fig. 3 the whole of the shank is oval in transverse cross-section and it is intended for insertion in a substantially circular aperture in a support to form a plug button device or a closure or for insertion in circular apertures in, for example, a trim pad 15 and panel 14 to hold the trim pad to the panel the shank being compressed along its long axis where it contacts the aperture or apertures so that it is gripped by the aperture or apertures. The shank can be formed with one or more longitudinal slits extending to the free end or with two longitudinally extending folds. The head can be circular, oval or rectangular in plan view and can be adapted to secure a cable or beading to an apertured panel. In a modification the shank is externally oval in cross-section from the head to the position of maximum cross-sectional area and circular in cross-section over the remainder of its length.
