A brief-type diaper has pre-girth parts ( 4, 4' ) located vertically, and a pre-crotch part ( 5 ) located between the pre-girth parts and provided with substantially V-shaped recesses ( 6 ) in the front and rear body sides, respectively. An absorber is disposed in a brief-type diaper precursor ( 1 ) where pre-leg openings ( 7 ) are made. The precursor ( 1 ) is folded vertically along the center line X-X so that the pre-girth parts ( 4,4' ) and the pre-crotch part ( 5 ) are overlapped. Subsequently, the side fringe parts ( 4 a , 5 a) are bonded to form a waist opening thus obtaining a panty type diaper in which joints ( 11, 11 ) are formed in the front and rear bodies and no joint exist in the left and right bodies of the girth area.
