In a machine tool such as a lathe having a power traversed carriage longitudinally movable along a bed and which includes a clutch which is disengageable to interrupt the drive for the carriage traverse, a multi-position stop device is mounted on the carriage apron 2 which cooperates with stops 5 located at predetermined positions on the bed. A trigger member 20 pivotable about an axle 21 within the apron is retained in the "engaged" position with an axially displaceable sleeve 14 on a transverse shaft 13 by the pretensioning between a spring 18 in the shaft 13 and spring 23 in a plunger 22 which engages one arm of the trigger to maintain the latch on the trigger in engagement with a ridge portion on the sleeve. The other arm of the trigger is engaged by a shaft 7 which carries a trip arm 8 and which is angularly displaceable with the shaft by way of the hand lever 10 whereby any one of the stop positions may be selected. In operation, a stop position having been selected, the carriage traverses the bed until the trip arm engages the selected stop on the bed whereby the shaft, which has small axial freedom, trips the trigger which rotates out of engagement with the sleeve which moves forward to actuate the clutch fork to disengage the clutch. The clutch may be reengaged and the sleeve and trigger reset by the operation of the handle 31 on the transverse shaft 13. |
