The compositions and methods disclosed herein are for prevention or treatmen t of multi-organ failure with erythropoietin. The usefulness of the present invention is that erythropoietin may act to prevent the onset of MOF in a patient at risk of developing it. The present invention may further lessen t he effect in one or more affected organs in a patient at risk of developing MOF or in one already diagnosed with it.
