A portable device which is carried in use, comprises motion sensing means for recording the motion as a user displaces the device; the motion sensing means is adapted to operate in conjunction with a processor located within the portage device and/or located remotely from the portable device and which assesses the motion of said portable device. The device has an indicator as part of the device for providing an indication to the user representative of the assessment to be displayed via personal computers and/or wireless hand held devices. The device may include means for sensing grip pressure distribution, location of impact and/or vibrations caused by an impact.
