The method involves modifying power and given usage time corresponding to an operating speed to optimize initially authorized performance of a turboshaft engine (M). The optimization of the initially authorized performance is compensated by a modification of total potential of utilization of the engine, where the potential is lower than a time between overhaul (TBO). An independent claim is also included for a device to implement a method of optimizing initially authorized performances of a turboshaft engine of a twin-engine helicopter.
