<p>Slurry of U235-enriched U is pumped to a vacuum filter rotating about vertical axis, where a moving scraper takes thin layer from top of filter cake and transfers damp powder to fluidised bed by a flexible tube. Powder is separated by cyclone and filter, admitted to bed in small quantities by vane lock, dried by radiant heat and withdrawn from bed continuously or discontinuously into a refrigerated collector. Semi-continuous production of dry powder from wet slurry is automatic and requires no close attention from human operator. Safe diameter of bed and safe thickness of filter cake, dependant on degree of enrichments, cannot be exceeded when set.</p> |
