A method and an apparatus for processing wood chips, wherein the wood chips are treated with steam in a gas removal apparatus (2). The condensate formed in the gas removal apparatus (2) is removed from the gas removal apparatus (2) and the wood chips are treated with a processing solution in order to remove metal ions from the wood chips. Condensate formed in the gas removal apparatus (2) is used as processing solution.
