A clamp 1 for attachment to the crushed lower door sill of a crashed motor vehicle in order to provide a footing for a powered ram for assisting extraction of a trapped occupant is disclosed. The clamp has a pair of pivotally connected opposing jaws 2, 3, each jaw consisting of two spaced apart parallel plates having an arc shaped set of inwardly facing teeth. A threaded rod is arranged so that rotation of the rod by a handle 6 causes the jaws to open or close. One of the jaws includes means 7 for retaining the base of a powered ram. In order to extract the trapped occupant of a crashed motor vehicle the lower sill of the vehicle door is crushed with a suitable separate device. The jaws are then attached to the crashed sill and the rod turned to securely fasten the jaws in place. One end of a powered ram is placed in the ram retaining means 7 while the opposite end is placed against part of the vehicle so that when the ram is extended the part of the vehicle trapping the occupant is pushed away.
