A care provider is able to remotely program a pacemaker, drug pump, neurostimulation device or other an implantable medical device (IMD) [122A-E] by operating a browser [117] communicating with a server [102] over a network [114]. Following successful authentication, the care provider's browser receives information [210] about one or more operating parameters of the IMD. The care provider provides an instruction [212] to modify one or more operating parameters. The server formats a digital program request [214] from the instruction that includes an identification code uniquely identifying the server [216]. The digital program request is then forwarded to the IMD via a remote monitor (IRM) [120] that subsequently verifies the digital identification code and wirelessly transmits the verified digital program request to the IMD.
