A method for preparing a a,b-unsaturated cyclohexene carboxylic acid of formula (A) is disclosed, wherein the method comprises hydrolysing the a,b-unsaturated cyclohexene dicarbonitrile of formula (B), wherein the hydrolysis is carried out using thionyl chloride, where Ar is an aromatic group.
