The longitudinal marginal rods 6 of a concrete reinforcement mat are spaced apart a distance a equal to the distance between the longitudinal rods 5 of the intermediate portion of the reinforcement mat. However, the marginal rods 6 are spaced from the nearest longitudinal rod 5 of the intermediate portion by a distance b which is in excess of the distance a. The rods 6 are also of a cross sectional area approximately half that of the rods 5. When two mats are placed adjacent each other, as illustrated in Fig. 2, they are symmetrically disposed in respect of their rods 6 so that a line Y through the axis of adjacent rods is inclined at an angle between 15‹ and 45‹ and such that lines of symmetry X are spaced apart and from adjacent rods 5 by the same distance a separating the rods 5. One mat can be inverted in respect of the other. |
