PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which executes the optimumγcorrection by detecting the dynamic range of an object at a high accuracy to improve the contrast, and reduces the load of operational processes on a CPU for selecting theγcoefficient to enable the operational process for a short period of time. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: a second opening 12 for calculating the charge storage time, based on image data R, G, B pixel units for one screen; a means 11 for calculating the mean brightness value in each region, based on image data R, G, B pixel units for one screen, after dividing one screen in a specified number of regions; a means 13 for calculating the feature value, based on the mean brightness value of each region;γ-coefficient selecting means (14, 8) for selecting theγcoefficient, based on the feature value and the charge storage time; aγcorrector 10 for correctingγof image data, based on theγcoefficient determined by theγ-coefficient selecting means (14, 8); and an exposure controller 15 for controlling the exposure according to theγcoefficient determined by theγ-coefficient selecting means (14, 8).
