PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image management device which can make effective use of a recording capacity of the whole network, and also provide an image management method and a program. SOLUTION: An image management system 100 is provided with a management server 101 (an image management device), a digital camera 102 and a recording device group 103 comprising one hundred recording devices 104<SB>a1</SB>-104<SB>a100</SB>, which all execute data communication with one another via a network. The management server 101 executes image data distribution-and-storage processing to divide large image data acquired from the digital camera 102 into a plurality of images, generates division files, transfers the division files to the one hundred recording devices 104<SB>a1</SB>-104<SB>a100</SB>constituting the recording group 103, stores the division files in the recording area of each recording device which receives the division file, and executes concentration/restoration processing to the division files to re-concentrate the division files on the management server 101.
