PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor which reduces effect of something other than gas to be detected and has a superior response property, and to provide a method for manufacturing it. SOLUTION: The gas sensor comprises; a detection section 16 for detecting a prescribed gas; and a plurality of isolated catalyst layers 18 having a catalyst metal and being disposed on the surface of the detection section.
