<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately switch and control servo standby state and to realize significant power-saving in a disk drive, with respect to the variation of intermittent pause periods during nonregular intermittent drive periods resulting from the variation of accumulation or read rate to a shockproof memory by an image rate, in the disk drive apparatus compatible with a variable bit rate (VBR) method. <P>SOLUTION: The drive intermittent pause periods are predicted from a video coding rate or a memory capacity (S103), and according to intermittent predicted pause periods (S104), the servo standby state is switched among, spindle motor stopping, laser stopping, RF superposition stopping, and wait standby. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
