<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter cleaning control device for an air conditioner that automatically detects a failure without continuing filter cleaning in an occurring state of the failure in the filter cleaning device and can inform a user of it, in the air conditioner having the filter cleaning device for automatically cleaning a filter. <P>SOLUTION: The control device comprises a failure announcing means comprising right and left suction nozzle detecting means and detects that a failure occurs in at least one detecting means upon simultaneous detection by the right and left suction nozzle detecting means, moves to the left (right) from the detection state by the right (left) suction nozzle detecting means, detects that a failure occurs in the movement of a suction nozzle based on the time until the detection is made by the right (left) suction nozzle detecting means, and announces the failure.
