A control system for an electric oven or cooker comprises means whereby the oven or cooker is controlled for a predetermined period at a first pre-set temperature and thereafter may be controlled at a second pre-set, lower temperature. If desired, the period of the second temperature can be terminated by an automatic timer device. A control unit 5 comprising a selector switch 51, a timecontrolled switch 52 and a temperaturedependent switch 53 is connected between points AB in one of the leads between a supply RO and a heating element 1 of an oven, the control system further including an automatic timer device 4, an adjustable temperaturedependent switch 3 and a selector switch 2. The selector switch 51, in the position shown, allows the system to be controlled by the ON-OFF operation of the switch 3, set to, e.g. 220‹ C., the heating elements 1 in use being selected by the switch 2. When it is desired that a long period of cooking is required the switch 51 is manually operated to its changeover position which movement simultaneously closes switch 52. The system now operates initially under the control of the switch 3 at a high temperature until the time-controlled switch 52 opens after a predetermined period. With the switch 52 open control of the system passes to the switch 53 which is set, e.g. at 80‹ C., whereupon the oven is controlled at this lower temperature until switched off, either manually or by the automatic timer device 4. In a second embodiment a further temperaturedependent switch is provided which is utilized in lieu of the temperature-dependent switch 3 when the selector switch is operated to select the long period mode of cooking. |
