PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display device capable of sharing sensors, simplifying constitution and reducing costs. SOLUTION: In the projection type video display device which projects light emitted from a light source 1 on a screen 40 together with video images through display devices 31, 32 and 33 and a projection lens 16, a pair of noncontact type distance sensors are provided. The pair of distance sensors are constituted freely turnably so as to be in parallel in a roughly horizontal direction or a roughly vertical direction. Also, the inclination angles of the projection lens 16 and the screen 40 to the horizontal direction and the vertical direction are respectively detected by the pair of distance sensors, and trapezoidal distortion in the horizontal direction and the vertical direction is corrected on the basis of the detected respective inclination angles.
