PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video reproducing method, a video communication system, and a video reproducing apparatus that can change a displayed video image into a display according to an instruction of a user in a short period of time after the user of the video reproducing apparatus gives an instruction of changing a reproduction speed to the video reproducing apparatus. SOLUTION: When the reproduction speed is changed from an ordinary speed into a slow speed for example, after receiving the instruction from the user, the video reproducing apparatus immediately starts display of a video image at a slow speed (step S24b), instructs a video server apparatus to temporarily stop the reproduction (step S24c), and instructs the video server apparatus to carry out slow reproduction (step S24e) after a lapse of a prescribed waiting time (step S24d). Further, the video reproducing apparatus adjusts a display time in the case of displaying a slow video image depending on whether a time stamp for assuming the ordinary speed reproduction or a time stamp for assuming the slow speed reproduction is attached to video frame information stored in a buffer.
