Novel compounds of the Formula I wherein R 1 is H, CH 3 or C 2 H 5 and R 2 is CH 3 or C 2 H 5 , and acid addition salts thereof, are obtained (a) by reacting a reactive ester (e.g. hydrohalic ester or p-toluene sulphonic ester) of an alcoholic of Formula II with an amine of formula R 1 R 2 NH, (b) by dehydrating a compound of Formula IV e.g. by boiling with mineral acid, (c) by methylating or ethylating a compound of Formula I in which R 2 is H, or (d) by hydrolysis of a compound of the Formula I in which R 1 represents a protecting group capable of being split off by hydrolysis, e.g. benzenesulphonyl groups, especially tosyl, p-nitrobenzene sulphonyl, h-bromobenzene sulphonyl, or an acyl group. The compounds may be isolated as free bases or as acid addition salts. 5 - Methylene - 10 - bromomethyl - 5H - dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene is obtained by bromination of 5-methylene-10-methyl-5H-dibenzo[a,d]- cycloheptene with N-bromosuccinimide. Pharmaceutical compositions useful as anticonvulsants, antiepileptics, tranquilizers, psychosedatives, muscle relaxants and antiparkinson agents, comprise compounds of Formula I in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier in forms suitable for enteral or parenteral administration.</p> |
