<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a service providing system capable of being adapted to an environment wherein services are daily disorderly increased/decreased like general servers on the Internet. <P>SOLUTION: When a directory server 20 informs a composite machine about service definition information (s114, s130), since the composite machine can grasp services providable by a function server, the load imposed on the composite machine can be suppressed even under an environment wherein services are disorderly increased/decreased. Further, since the directory server generates the service definition information about which the directory server informs the composite machine in a way that the directory server can particularize services suitable for the functions of the composite machine, the possibility of designation of the services not appropriate to the functions of the composite machine is precluded by allowing a user to designate the provided services on the basis of the service definition information.
