PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for efficiently manufacturing on an industrial scale a diene copolymer latex which is excellent in wet sticking resistance, enhances both a pick strength and a wet pick strength of a coated paper and moreover reduces the amount of fine coagula generated when a coating color is prepared. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the copolymer latex comprises emulsion-polymerizing a monomer mixture of (a) 20-80 mass% of a conjugated diene monomer, (b) 0.5-10 mass% of an unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, (c) 3-50 mass% of a vinyl cyanide monomer and (d) 0-76.5 mass% of other monomers copolymerizable therewith (provided that the total of (a), (b), (c) and (d) is 100 mass%) in the presence of at least one compound (abbreviated as compound A) selected from among alkali salts of ethylenically unsaturated sulfonic acids, where the reaction conversion rate of the compound A incorporated into the polymerization system is at least 70 mass% at the time of the end of the addition of the whole monomer mixture.
