PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of decreasing belt skew and securely fixing a toner image on a sheet as well as shortening warm-up time and reducing power consumption, and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: One of support members 21 and a pressure member 24 are in firm contact with each other upstream in the direction of the conveyance of a recording medium X. The other of the support members 21 and the pressure member 24 are in firm contact with each other downstream in the direction of the conveyance of the recording medium X. Of the trained sections 27 and 28 of the belt 22 trained between the support members 21, the one trained section 27 is tautly trained such that both ends of the trained section 27 is sandwiched between the corresponding support members 21 and the pressure member 24. The other trained section 28 is trained untautly. The pressure member 24 is disposed in contact with the outside of the one trained section 27, to form a fixing nip area 30 between them. The support member 21 disposed upstream and support member 21 disposed downstream in the direction of the conveyance of the recording medium X are in contact with the pressure member 24 with pressing force P1 and pressing force P2 respectively, which are different from each other.
