PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for detection of dot shift which can easily and quickly detect shift of dots formed by impact of droplets discharged from the nozzle of a droplet-discharging head onto an article to be detected. SOLUTION: The method has an image acquisition step for acquiring an electronic image of a row of dots formed on an article to be detected, a dot coordinate acquisition step for acquiring the X and the Y coordinate of the center 211 of each dot, with a direction nearly parallel with the row of dots taken as the X axis and the direction perpendicular to the X axis as the Y axis, a first reference-line-determination step for determining the first reference line 26 by the least squares method on the basis of the X and Y coordinates of the center 211 of each dot and a Y-axis shift determination step for acquiring information on the amount of shift of each dot in the Y axis by determining the distance of the center 211 of each dot from the first reference line.
