PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in which illuminance inspection of a display screen of a new or used liquid crystal display for confirming the brightness of the display screen cannot be performed in a simple fashion. SOLUTION: An illuminance inspection apparatus for a liquid crystal display is provided with: a casing 2 which forms a dark compartment 11 where an opening 8 for inspecting illuminance is opened; an illuminance detector 21 which is installed in the casing and inside the dark room so as to detect the illuminance of a display screen 12 on which a picture is displayed, the picture being illuminated by a back light of the liquid crystal display 10 made to cover the opening so as to cover the opening from the outside of the casing; an illuminance display 22 which is installed outside the casing so as to display an illuminance value detected by the illuminance detector so as to be visible from the outside of the casing; power source devices 22a, 30 provided outside the casing so as to output power for displaying the picture illuminated by the back light to the display screen of the liquid crystal display and power for detecting the illuminance to the illuminance detector; and operation parts 26, 32 provided outside the casing so as to operate supply and cut off of the power from the power source apparatus to the illuminance detector and the power to the liquid crystal display.
